forty five symbols

These raw, childlike symbols reveal our inner vulnerability we try so hard to shield with our defensive exteriors. The 45 symbols are a reminder that our bodies uncover the reality of our honest selves, and encourage openness with each other.

#connect

There is a basic human need to connect with each other to fill our lives with meaning and purpose; everything we do and say contracts a reaction from another person through a ripple effect. Yet we pass by opportunities to truly engage this connection with others all the time.

A societal habit humans have is to conceal their true feelings, erasing authenticity and sincerity. Without recognizing our own vulnerabilities and realizing who we are personally, we lose the ability to genuinely connect to others, leaving us on a surface level of communication without anything of matter to convey.

One of my goals for this simple symbol set is to make it easier for people to show their true emotions. I can imagine this being a tool for all ages to simply point to the character they are feeling and start a conversation.

When my younger sister was a toddler, we assigned a "character" to her negative emotions. We called it the "Dark Rainbow." When she was feeling upset and didn't have the words to express herself, she would draw a dark rainbow and we would try and understand her frustrations from there. This is, in some sense, the same.

felt emotions

These tiny felt beings were created to represent the physical aspect of our emotions. They could be used in the place of words when words are hard to find or as a coping mechanism for individuals.
